Black Paintings

Vilde does not number the black paintings and does not date them individually. The checklist will give a span and a medium and nothing else, which is the artist's condition for showing them together.

The gallery lighting is rebuilt for this exhibition. The works are lit from one side at a low angle, close to the way they are painted, so that the strokes are read as relief before they are read as colour.
